The Sutton Place Hotel Halifax consistently receives positive reviews, particularly highlighting exceptional service and a prime downtown location with Citadel Hill views. While some minor maintenance and operational issues have been noted, the overall guest experience is overwhelmingly positive, with guests praising the comfortable rooms, convenient amenities, and friendly staff.
We recently stayed with one of my friend at this hotel and were thoroughly impressed by the level of service throughout our visit. From check-in to check-out, every interaction was professional, warm, and efficient. Special recognition goes to Tarun from the Night team, who went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. His attentiveness, quick problem-solving, and friendly demeanour made a real difference throughout our stay. It's clear that he takes genuine pride in his work, and it shows in the excellent guest experience he provides. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and well-managed experience, and we certainly plan to return.
?? I stayed at The Sutton Place Hotel, and it was a wonderful experience. Having a view of the Citadel right from the room allowed us to enjoy the Noon Gun comfortably without any hassle or fighting through crowds. Because of the rainy weather, we decided to dine at the hotel’s restaurant, and it turned out to be a great choice—the staff were professional, and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. The room itself was very clean, and being able to control the lights using the in-room touch panel gave it a nice, modern touch. The L'Occitane toiletries smelled amazing, lightened our luggage load, and the bathrobes were thick and cozy. ?A few areas for improvement: ?Room Maintenance: There were some minor maintenance issues, such as a very stiff bathroom door, a cabinet door that wouldn't close properly, and light switches that were a bit unintuitive to use. ??Front Desk Service: Service varied depending on the shift. The staff working upon our arrival seemed somewhat indifferent and were chatting amongst themselves without paying attention to guests. A large group was standing right in front of the counter talking, which delayed our check-in. However, the Asian female staff member at checkout was wonderfully friendly and proactively greeted us, which was a great touch. Valet Parking: The valet staff were quiet, but they were helpful in opening doors when our hands were full and quickly guided us when our Uber arrived. ?Overall, the location is fantastic and it's a great choice for families. With just a few small tweaks, it could easily stand far above other surrounding hotels!
Great location, but this is not a five star hotel. Three star at best. The trip started with them putting us in a room where the guests in the hot tub could look straight into our windows. That is not an acceptable room to be offered. They did eventually correct the issue with a better room but they never should have placed us there to begin with. For a five star hotel they lack many amenities including a lobby cafe for morning coffee. Check in was a little hectic with luggage scattered throughout the lobby. Blue bins on a rolling rack remained in the lobby throughout our three day stay which gave off a feeling of carelessness. The valet service was prompt but for the supposed five star offering they never opened any doors or assisted anyone. I'd recommend a stay there but only at a rate well below what we paid.
I stayed at the Sutton for two nights. It wasn’t a planned part of my trip so I just picked a random spot and I will say this hotel is nothing short of incredible. The service is amazing. I took my hat to the valet team. I had a vehicle that was higher than clearance for a garage and they took care of it so smooth the front desk has been nothing short of amazing. They will just text you so you don’t have to worry about calling or dropping in the room is immaculate. I had Darmon Preet as my Sutton team member who took care of my room. She was lovely. It actually made it hard to want to sightsee in Halifax because the sheets in the bed are softer than any hotel I have ever stayed at and I have stayed at many hotels and the robes….divine. They aren’t that starchy terry cloth. They are more comfortable than pajamas. I dined twice in the lobby and I will say their prices are so reasonable and it is an incredible lobby and the chopped restaurant I opted to sit in the lobby before seeing what the restaurant looks like and it is lovely. 10/10. Although I didn’t use it, I did pop into the gym on the seventh floor when I was going to the rooftop patio and hot tub looked great Not old machines like you see in a lot of hotels and the rooftop patio on the seventh floor was awesome. It happened to be a little windy while I was here which didn’t let me work on the patio like I had hoped. My Room overlooked Citadel Hill. And I could easily walk to everywhere I wanted to go downtown. Thank you so much to the whole team here.
I had a great stay at the Sutton Place Hotel Halifax. The hotel was beautiful, clean, and well maintained, and the staff were welcoming and professional throughout my visit. The room was comfortable, quiet, and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The location was excellent and made it easy to explore the city. The hot tub was a great bonus and the perfect way to relax after a day out.
I stayed at this hotel for 6 days. The rooms were not the cleanest (some dust on the vent). But they helped and clean again which was very appreciated. The staff are incredibly friendly and nice. The drinks are good too. The location is fantastic. A couple of minutes of walk to the harbour and other restaurants. I will definitely come back again. Thanks for a great experience.
Here’s a polished review you can post: ????? Exceptional Stay at Sutton Place Halifax Our stay at the Sutton Place Hotel Halifax exceeded all expectations. The location is absolutely perfect—right in the heart of downtown with easy access to everything, including the historic Halifax Citadel National Historic Site and the beautiful Halifax Waterfront. Whether you’re visiting for sightseeing, dining, or simply exploring the city, it’s an ideal home base. The hotel itself is stunning, with beautiful facilities and modern, updated rooms that feel both elegant and comfortable. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, making it easy to relax after a day of exploring. The entire property has a luxurious feel while still being warm and welcoming. What truly made our stay memorable was the outstanding service. The staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and always willing to help. A special thank you to Avi, who welcomed us upon arrival and went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful stay. She provided amazing recommendations for local restaurants and attractions, and her genuine hospitality made us feel valued from the moment we arrived. The room was amazing, the view was spectacular, and the overall experience was first-class. We would not hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend Sutton Place Halifax to anyone looking for a luxury hotel experience in an unbeatable location. ?????
We stayed four nights at the The Sutton Place Hotel Halifax while attending a convention in Halifax and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The location is excellent, the service outstanding, and every staff member we interacted with — from valet parking to the butlers and restaurant team — was professional, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was beautifully prepared, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel felt elegant yet comfortable. Only one small point of criticism: beside the bed was a small bench with steel legs, and unfortunately I managed to hurt my toe on it twice during our stay. Perhaps there may be a way to soften or redesign that corner area a little. Other than that, an excellent stay all around. We would gladly return and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Halifax.
I recently stayed at The Sutton and had a fantastic experience, largely thanks to the incredible service at the front desk. I want to give a special shout-out to Saniya, who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. When I noticed a small hole in my room's robe, she replaced it immediately without any hesitation. She also graciously arranged a late check-out for us, which made our final morning so much more relaxing. It’s rare to find someone so attentive and proactive. Saniya is a true asset to the team, and her hospitality made all the difference. I can't wait to come back!
If I could give service ten stars I would. From the door man to front desk to the lovely people working in chop. Front desk was very accommodating friendly and right on. Two specific shout outs to the ladies in chop.. first off Stephanie went above and beyond and treated us like kings. Thank you very much for everything. The second shoutout would be to the red headed lady, she’s saucy (in a good way) and super duper nice. We really enjoyed every single aspect of this place.
