The Prince George Hotel receives generally positive reviews, particularly highlighting its excellent location in downtown Halifax, friendly and accommodating staff, and comfortable rooms with amenities such as a pool and gym. However, some guests have raised concerns about cleanliness issues, dated decor, and inconsistent food quality, especially regarding the included breakfast.
My experience at the Prince George Hotel was amazing! The staff was super efficient and welcoming to our family, by the amazing service and giving us some places to go while visiting Halifax. We sincerely appreciated the generosity while I was celebrating my 80th birthday, the staff treated my family and I with chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of proseco. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel, the staff is superb. Special thanks to Britany at the front desk, by the effort she put into the card with adding Italian wishes into the writing. Thank you, Frances from Ontario!
Great location in Halifax! We had a slightly tired looking room, but it was a great size, clean, and very comfortable. The hotel has an amazing patio bar for an evening drink. Everything we wanted to see, do, or eat felt walking distance away, too! I appreciated the fresh milk/cream in room for coffee. The pool was about as warm as the hot tub, but it was still nice to swim around. The gym was fairly standard for a hotel - cardio heavy and some mid-range dumbbells.
This is an amazing hotel with some critical flaws. The first is of course the price. Bottom line we paid about $1000 / night. The room was nice for sure, but it's not at that level by any measure. I've stayed in nicer places for half that. However the biggest flaw was the food. The included breakfast apparently has a list price of $26 / person ($52 for me and my wife + taxes and gratuity on top of that). But without exaggeration, it was the worst breakfast I've ever experienced, possibly anywhere. Everything was COLD! I mean like refrigerator temp. The sausages were inedible. The bacon was rock hard. The eggs were somehow runny and cold at the same time (had they been hot they'd be considered properly cooked). This indicates to me that the food was prepared far in advance, if not the day before. The intent was probably to have it reheat under the warming lights and sterno flames under the trays. But if you get there early, you discover the truth. This is old food. Absolutely inedible, possibly dangerous. The next day we did order breakfast to the room instead. It was definitely better and fresher. But still not at the level of a hotel that charges $1000 / night.
Great stay at the Prince George !! Location is great, at the top of the Halifax hill so everything is walkable ! Stayed with kids and the pool was a HIT ! Pool was Warm and there is a hot tub as well. Front desk staff also gave them coupons for freezies to be enjoyed at their desire- a highlight to our trip. Stayed in an executive suite for 2 nights and a “regular” room the following night (due to availability when booking). The regular room was at the front of the hotel and much quieter due to no noise from the street. The amenities in the executive suite were LOVELY ! Robes where super comfy and the toiletries where great. Staff was great with coordinating the mid stay room change. Breakfast buffet was well appointed and had great options, everything was fresh, try the chia seed pudding !! Coffee was also served with a pitcher on the table, much appreciated when travelling with kids! Rooftop patio was a great spot to chill. Parking is underground and tight maneuvering, but easy to get to and secure. Fridges in the rooms were also a bonus to keep snacks in. Would definitely return and thank you to the wonderful staff for accommodating us!
The staff at The Prince George Hotel Halifax were genuinely kind and helpful. The reception team was very friendly, and the room keepers were also respectful and supportive throughout our stay. However, the cleanliness of the room was disappointing. The carpet felt very dirty, and the curtains were full of dust, which made the room uncomfortable, especially for someone with allergies. Unfortunately, because of this, I would not recommend this hotel for people who are sensitive to dust or have allergy issues.
I wouldn’t recommend staying here and will never stay here again. I arrived from a late flight from Vancouver at 1:30am. After a long travel day I got to my room and there was someone else’s hair in the sink. It clearly had not been cleaned. There were also long hairs in the bathtub. I had to be up early for a conference and when I brought it to the attention of the staff they weren’t as apologetic as I would have expected. I showed them the picture and emailed it to them as well. For me this was a huge miss in customer service. It’s absolutely disgusting and unhygienic to not clean a bathroom area in a hotel. I would have probably let this go but then when I had asked for a late check out after my 3 night stay I was told to call the morning of my check out at 7:30am. I set an alarm to do this as my flight home wasn’t until 6pm (I’m on west coast time so the 7:30am wake up was annoying but I thought I could do it and go back to sleep). When I called I was told they couldn’t accommodate the late check out and I then brought up the hygiene issue at the beginning of my stay and they still were not accommodating. It’s things like this in customer service that clearly show me they don’t care about their guests and their experience at their hotel. The hotel is fairly expensive for what you get - dated decor, peeling pain in the bathroom, slow draining sinks and tub. The location is in a good spot but there is also a bar that is right outside the hotel which makes it difficult to sleep. Overall I was not impressed, disappointed in their lack of customer service and the cleanliness of this hotel.
Perfect location in the heart of downtown, but with easy underground parking. A bit noisy on the weekend with many bars and Roger’s Centre just outside, but not intolerable. Beautiful and classy interior, welcoming easygoing staff, great gym and nice pool. The room was a good size with comfortable beds, good lighting, handy mini-bar area with fridge and well-equipped bathroom. Everything was spotless! We got a great group rate with our hockey team and will definitely stay again next season!
Stayed overnight here recently to attend a mooseheads game, couldn't ask for a better location in regards to local amenities and that certainly drives the price of a room per night. Hallways feel a bit drab and dated and the rooms are pretty standard hotel rooms nothing overly special or luxurious beyond all the little extra toiletries they provide in the room. All in all it was a great stay and its in a prime location for attending events in the area, however at nearly 400 a night there's plenty of other options within the area(walking distance) for a fraction of the price that are in my opinion more luxurious feeling.
Good service Clean room Clean linens. Only complaint is not enough tea pods or teabags and milk . Others wise fantastic Dinner at Gio and great breakfast at the buffet . All in all a very good stay will definately stay again especially when in town for a concert .
My first time staying at this hotel and to say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. The main lobby is beautiful, bright and spacious. The staff are friendly, welcoming and accommodating. My room was beautifully kept and tidy, and the bed was SO comfortable. Absolutely not a thing I would change, including the convenient downtown location! Everything is just a short walk away. Would stay here again! 10/10
