The Inn on the Lake offers a convenient location near Halifax Airport and Fall River, often praised for its value and friendly staff. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies in room conditions, inconsistent service (particularly regarding restaurant hours and amenities), and ongoing maintenance needs.
We enjoyed a cozy dinner at the restaurant inside. Our room was clean. It was warm. We couldn't get the air conditioning to work. The ceiling fan looked and sounded like it was going to detach from the ceiling. Thankfully we were able to leave the sliding door open to let the room cool down some.
Friendly enough staff, lots of parking. The whole hotel is a little tired, and the room smelled like a bottle of men’s cologne had exploded in it. Unfortunately as that’s the first thing that hit us, it put a negative spin on the stay. It must be incredibly difficult for these independent hotels to survive now with Airbnb etc so readily available, so I understand why it hasn’t had updating done since … judging by the bathroom tiles 1985, but quite a high price for what it is. Was surprised at no food or drink on Mondays or Tuesdays, but other local restaurants were closed the same days. Was unfortunate though for a hotel to have no breakfast, and no evening bar available at all, as those are the two times you’re likely to not want to drive out for. It was likely a beautiful inn with great scenery in its past. The noise from the highway is loud, and unavoidable, and with the patio doors closed, and the loud a/c unit going you wouldn’t hear it, unfortunately with the overpowering cologne-type smell (likely a cleaner’s air freshener) we had no choice but to sleep with the door wide open to try to air out the smell. The pool had a lot of sand in it and didn’t look terribly clean, which was unfortunate as other traveller photos earlier in the year it looked much better. The hotel is conveniently located for the airport and Halifax, and is less expensive than downtown Halifax hotels, but for the extra $100 per room we paid to stay downtown we got a much nicer room, newer, quieter and with more amenities, and was right at the waterfront. In hindsight, as much as I try to support local independent businesses, a chain hotel would have been a better value & night’s sleep.
Main concern: the dining room is not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. That information was not shared with me when I reserved the room. Nor was it shared with me when the hotel contacted me two days before I checked in and we had an exchange about the food offerings at the restaurant! Had that info been shared I would have chosen a different hotel. The hotel is in a rural area so searching for an open restaurant after a long travel day was a little frustrating. Secondary concern: The room itself is in need of renovation. The climate control system was very loud and hard to sleep through and didn’t work too well to cool the room
Location is directly off highway. You have to walk through the parking lot to get to the lake. The rooms were nice although the showers are very small. Good luck to a tall person who drops their soap. The restaurant and desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall it was a fine stay, but a bit underwhelming based on the website photos and descriptions.
We decided on this accommodation because of the value. A lot better than the very high prices in downtown Halifax. It’s close to amenities just a few minutes away by car and if you don’t mind having to drive to Halifax between 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic then you can’t go wrong here. The room was clean and comfortable and a very nice Jacuzzi tub right in the room. no complaints whatsoever here I would probably return on another visit to Halifax. ??
Everything was perfect from start to finish. The room was spotless, comfortable, and very well located. The staff were efficient, friendly, and highly professional throughout my stay. I would definitely recommend this place to my family and friends and would gladly stay here again.”
Only papers cups. No glasses or bottle opener. Robes were Terry clothe. Towels were super small and only 2. Soap was terrible. Screen door wouldn’t work. Not accessible at all. No railings on the gazebo.
All staff in both the hotel & restaurant were extremely friendly and helpful from the moment we got there to the moment we left. The hotel has a lot of character - not fancy but we enjoyed it. Clean room, includes your basics (mini fridge, microwave & coffee maker) and is located in a convenient location between the Halifax airport and Halifax itself and Fall River has all that you’d need service wise (grocery store, coffee shops, gas, restaurants etc). We enjoyed our view, our balcony overlooked the pool and lake and was very nice to spend our mornings & evenings on, the hotel has gazebos you can spend time that are closer to the private beach on site. When we went down to the restaurant it was packed and we still received excellent, punctual & friendly service and the food was absolutely delicious! We’re very happy with all aspects of our stay with Inn on the Lake. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Booked in for Valentine Day Package. Room 103 (with whirlpool tub) was old but clean. Restaurant meal was nicely done but steak was tough. Staff were frienfly and efficient. However bathroom fan did not work and the faucet was very stiff to turn. Lightbulb in ceiling light flickered (burning out), No continental breakfast.
I am hoping my experience with the hotel is unusual. I made 2 separate room reservations because the site didn't allow 2 rooms to be booked at the same time (despite the option being there). The 1st was made online, the 2nd through the hotel. Plans changed and I made a new reservation for 1 person for 2 nights, then proceeded to cancel the online reservation and (as stated in the hotel's email for the 2nd reservation) emailed the hotel to cancel the 2nd reservation. To my surprise when I called the hotel to tell them I would be getting there late the lady told me there was no reservation. After giving her the reservation number she confirmed the hotel had cancelled my new reservation but (I found out the next morning from the man on the desk) left 1 of the 2 original reservations still open. When I checked into my room, the TV didn't work. I was shifted to a new room. It took over 5 minutes of wasting water at high volume to get hot water (I presume because there were few guests?). I was told by the lady on duty there were muffins and coffee, etc. available for guests. I did pick up a very stale muffin that night, but there was never anything out again during my stay. The next afternoon when I briefly returned to my room I noted that housekeeping hadn't shown up. When I asked the lady on the front desk why they didn't come she said they were gone but would be back the next morning. I had left my bed's upper sheet exposed so housekeeping could see the blood stains on it and change the sheet - to no avail. As I was getting into my car a maintenance man (?) came up to me and said he could do something in my room, although he was not sure what housekeeping's duties were. I declined. So all in all, not the best experience.
