Porters Peak offers a tranquil, off-grid getaway with beautiful starry nights and private lake access. Guests consistently praise the peaceful atmosphere, charming chalets, and outdoor amenities. However, some have experienced issues with cleanliness and lack of advertised amenities.
This is a little piece of heaven. Stayed in the Star Gazer chalet, and it was perfect. It was so peaceful. Love the loft for sleeping; great campfire setup; I LOVED the space decorations (especially the astronaut cat!!!). The view of the stars was incredible and we saw a ton of shooting stars. We will definitely be back!
Had a great time, the chalet was the perfect mix between camping and still being comfortable and relaxing! The area was private enough and quiet, the lake was smaller than expected but still did the job. The only thing i’d have to say is that it was hard to find exactly what we needed to bring in terms of cooking supplies.
My family of 6 were tent camping here mid July. We only had a couple nights, and were trying to visit Halifax too, so we didn't get to enjoy everything the camp had to offer. We gave ourselves the one morning to take advantage of the hiking and free paddleboards at the small lake, but it ended up pouring rain at that time. I wish I had taken advantage of the outdoor kitchen for breakfast down by the family games area, especially since it was raining and the BBQ area is covered. It would have been nicer than working under our tarp. The kids would have enjoyed swimming in the lake, even in the rain, but we didn't go down to the lake until we were on our way out. The driveway is a dirt road and very steep, but our loaded up minivan was still able to make it up, even when the road was wet. The tent sites are very small, but very private, and wooded. A7 didn't have a fire pit, I noticed that A8 did. I didn't see the other sites. We didn't see another camper the whole time we were there, but there was a truck that drove by once. Check in was self check-in, so we just drove to our spot and out again without seeing anyone. The outdoor shower was really nice. Biodegradable soap was provided. There are port-a-potties for toilets, which are fine for me, but my wife wasn't too keen on them, but she actually liked this campground the most out of our two week trip, even though all other camps had proper flush toilets. I definitely wish we had more time there, and will try to stay there on my next trip to Halifax.
We stayed at the tent camping site at Porters Peaks and unfortunately our experience did not match what was advertised on their website. The listing stated that a BBQ would be included at our site, but we were never able to find one upon arrival. It also mentioned that basic cooking equipment and a kitchenette would be provided, which we also did not see or have access to during our stay. In addition, photos on the website clearly showed the equipment and amenities we were supposed to have, which made the actual experience even more disappointing. One of the most disappointing issues was the showers. The website clearly indicated that showers were available, however when we went to use them there was no running water at all. There was no notice or warning that they were out of order. When we contacted staff, we were told they could not fix them. When we asked what we were supposed to do, the response we received was exactly: “I don’t know, maybe at the lake.” This was not a reasonable solution, especially considering the cold conditions and the fact that other people on the site could see us. In the end, we had to leave the campsite and pay for public showers elsewhere at $10 per shower, which was both inconvenient and unexpected. That being said, the location itself is beautiful if you are looking for a true nature experience and don’t rely on amenities. Overall, the site did not provide several of the basic amenities that were promised, and the lack of communication regarding these issues significantly affected our stay. I simply do not recommend this place.
From the beautiful views, the peaceful atmosphere, the birds singing everyday, no one around you, private lake access, great camp fires every day and night, from an amazing chalet. Even though you are off grid from the world it relaxes your soul. Thank you for being a great host - this has been my second time back and hopefully not the last
What an amazing 2 nights. The cabin was neatly tucked away for privacy while within walking distance to the lake and other amenities. All items were taken care of which allowed for hassle free relaxation. 10/10 would book again to explore the area more. Great hosts!
We stayed at the “Rolling Stone” and the “Ray of Sunshine” and we had a fabulous time. The area was quiet with the lovely view of the water from our window and deck. The yard was situated so that we were able to enjoy the outdoor fire pit and surrounded by trees with birds that transported our feeling of being in nature. Inside our room was cozy but small just in case you have kids but for the two of us, it was just perfect!! Though all cooking was outside, this made it so vibezee as we enjoyed the sunshine and didn’t miss out on outdoor time!! It was fun!
First time going to this location, boyfriend and i absolutely loved it! Planning on returning in the warmer weather, will most likely become a frequent spot even for just me. Absolutely beautiful location and beautiful chalet, great way to get off our phones and enjoy each others company or simply enjoy the peace. Since it was pet friendly as well, I brought my cat and she absolutely adored it and was upset to leave, we plan to bring our dog next in the spring! It was a surprise to us to see that an activity table was in the chalet with mini pool and ping pong and so much more, really enjoyed that as well and had a couple rounds of pool. Thank you for the wonderful experience, we will be back and I plan to share this location with the important people in my life!
Would not recommend. My partner and I booked a stay here in one of their cabins a month in advance. We showed up last night after check-in time began to find our cabin in complete disarray. It’s very clear to us now that the issue was that it had not been serviced since the last guests were there. The bedding hadn’t been changed, there was garbage and recycling everywhere, floors were dirty, the solar power bank was almost dead, etc. Also, the toilet didn’t appear to be working. I tried every available means of contacting them (email, phone call, instagram DM, driving to the “front desk” shipping container) and couldn’t get in touch with them. After an hour we left, as we weren’t able to stay the night in the condition the accommodations were left in. I received a brief text this morning informing me that they had refunded me, with a note saying “We did not realize the cabin was rented again”. Seems like a pretty thin excuse given that we booked a month in advance, and they actually called me 10 days prior to our reservation to ask if we’d be willing to switch cabins (so clearly our reservation was on their radar). FWIW, my partner and I did visit this place once previously and enjoyed our stay. I understand mistakes can happen, but the combination of poor communication, no real accountability, and bare minimum remediation has really left a bad taste in my mouth. A refund does not compensate for the hours we spent driving to and from and the inconvenience of this whole ordeal. ALSO, not having any means of contact available to your guests is no way to run a business.
Love, love, love, love! Needless to say Porter’s Peak is my new obsession. The chalets make great winter weekend getaways! My partner and I stayed in the Sunset Loft in November and it was adorable — super cozy and warm. The property is stunning and there’s lots to explore! I’m looking forward to our next trip!
