The Barrington Hotel receives mixed reviews, primarily highlighting friendly staff and a convenient downtown location. However, significant concerns center around outdated rooms, cleanliness issues, and a lack of modern amenities. The experience can vary greatly depending on the specific room and recent upkeep.

Don’t waste your money here. The photos online are NOT accurate. The lobby is the only nice room in the hotel. Everything else looks like it hasn’t been updated or cleaned since the 90s. The pool was dirty and the water was murky. The change rooms were filthy. We tried every ice machine in the hotel - all were broken. The air conditioning is ancient and barely works. The beds were comfortable but when they were updated to queen sized the hotel didn’t even bother to get a head board for a queen mattress. All the furniture in the hotel is dirty and feels like it’s from the early 90s. Last but not least - parking. They don’t have parking on site so you have to park across the street in a parking garage that costs you $28 per day. The hotel will “validate” the parking ticket for you to come and go unlimited times but they won’t cover the cost like every other hotel would so they add it to your bill. I would not stay here again.

STRONGLY RECOMMEND HOUSEKEEPING TEAM MUST REVIEW THEIR WORK PROCESSES. Front desk provided us great services. We arrived before 12noon, way earlier than official check in time but they still allow us to check in immediately when they have a room available. The king sized bedroom they offers us has a little bit of sea view and we could watch a little bit of fireworks, surprise! However, the facility is old and dirty. I have prepared myself by reading the google reviews before living in here. The reviews are terrible such as the couch is too dirty to seat on, there is hair on the bed, lamp not working, dusty a/c not working…… the google reviews are accurate, I have experienced all the exact same terrible services. The lamp is so old and covering with dirt that i thought it just being dig out by archaeologist. Overall this hotel has great location, good customer service, did not ruin our trip but I will never book this again. I would pay more for a better hotel or just save my budget to live in a hostel.

The Barrington hotel is one everyone must avoid. From the damp air quality to the unclean rooms, this place is questionable. The duvets do not have a duvet cover and are a yellowish ting. Same with many of the pillow covers. The wall paper is peeling and the curtains are falling off the rod. The paintings are something out of a 70s horror film. My photos speak for themselves. The air ducts are filled with dust, contributing to the strong mold and musty smell. This is everywhere from the hotels to the rooms. I aquired a strong cough well staying here. Our room had bed bugs despite not having any food left in our room. Even the ceiling was stained! We unfortunately could not switch hotels due to cost of a last minute change and it is peak tourist season. I will be complaining to the general manager directly (I have already made my issues known to the front desk). The front desk staff is kind but they have limited authority to make decisions it seems. They are working with what they have.

The only thing going for this hotel is its location. Our king room smelt of BO. It has ancient climate controls that barely did a thing. The room decor was super dated and dirty. Only one lamp at the bedside. Stains in the toilet and tub. Broken closet door. Loud refrigerator. Couldn't open windows. No bathroom fan switch. Paper thin walls. Coffee lids don't fit on the coffee cup (cup singular because there was only one cup for coffee or water). Mechanical noises non-stop. Elevators indicate down when they're actually going up. Only one elevator worked. Bathroom door appears to have been previously kicked in. Do the front desk or office staff go up to the rooms or is it just the cleaners and maintenance? Cause boy we did not get what we paid for.

First, the staff were incredibly friendly, polite, and accommodating. We loved the hotel's location, which was very convenient. One thing remember the parking is not on site. However, the property is in need of renovation and significant restoration. The rooms are small and outdated. We booked a room with a queen-size bed, it felt more like a double bed for a single traveler. We did not sleep comfortably during our three-night stay. Overall, we felt that the hotel did not provide good value for the price we paid, might be a better investing into looking at a different location for your stay.

Although it's on a little more quieter side of the Barrington St, the location is nice enough to walk around downtown and to the waterfront. And it's right across what seem to be major bus stations so it's easy to go around. The staff are nice and friendly and accommodating. The only thing that made me deduct a star is that the room was old and had that old damp smell, probably from the old rug, old wallpaper and interior. Otherwise it's a decent place to stay, especially for a friend group of >2 people (since they have two queen beds room, which I couldn't find in other hotels downtown). Another thing I notice is that the in-suite amenities are limited (i.e., no toothbrush, toothpaste, in-suite slippers, kettle - the same as most hotels in Canada, compared to other international hotels).

The hotel is actually very very good!! ??????????Their staff are pretty much helpful in chaotic situations. Anastasia helped us to check in early and yes, the staff understand human difficulties, they don’t function as robots. She even cared to get us complimentary desserts because of our anniversary as well. We needed a microwave, and they cared for our need as well. Osama helped us to check out late and took care of our luggage after check out as well. The hotel as at walking distance to the waterfront and connected to so many buildings and restaurants with the bridge. I really liked the hotel! I will surely recommend this hotel 5/5 ??

It was fine for a night stay. Although the rooms feel old, and are very cramped for a stay of four people. There's no microwave and the mini fridge is hidden under the TV. The television is also outdated so if you wanted to watch Netflix or anything, you'd have to hook up a laptop. There was nothing special about it, and it was priced pretty high for what it's worth. The bathrooms didn't come with enough towels or supplies for showers, so we had to speak with customer service and get what we needed. The service was pretty quick and eager to help accommodate whatever was needed, but its kinda crazy how there's no complementary water and we had to pay $4 dollars per bottle. Sauna was cool though, which is probably the only thing carrying the review to three stars. The location itself was good, it was close to downtown and quite a city-scenic route for a walk.

This hotel is o.k., but not what I would've expected for downtown Halifax. It was clean and central to the downtown core, but the amenities and rooms definitely lacked care and upkeep. Glitchy lighting. Hallways are not soundproof and extremely noisy. The staff are okay but seem indifferent to the whole client experience. The attached restaurant was good though. Props to the team at Tempo. Great service there. Overall, mediocre experience if you balance out the good with the N/I.

Honestly, I'm really torn on this review. The staff were incredibly friendly during my stay. However, the cons kind of outweigh the pros here. This hotel does have a pool that I partook in since I was down there already and that was fine. However, there was something gritty all over the bottom of the pool that I'd rather not think about. As far as the rooms they were clean but obviously outdated us. Other people have mentioned in their reviews and there were three or four hall ways you had to go down in order to find a room. Not to mention that it's listed as having parking on site. The parking is absolutely not on site. You have to park behind the scotius Square Mall out of your own pocket and then figure out dragging all of your luggage through Scotia Square Mall across the above ground walkways and then figure out how to get back to the hotel. Not an absolute dive but definitely won't be staying here again. There are nicer places to stay in Halifax.
